My friend and I looked after a group lottery for about 13 years. In that time we won four different times for a total of $11,000 each person. We had contributed around $4,000 each in that time, so we did okay.
The reason I like group play is that it gives you more winning chances.

I call it the Coolest Lottery Group Ever because you can put in as little or as much as you want. And you are entitled to a percentage of the winnings as long as the group is running ~ even of you only contribute once!
You can contribute as much and as often as you want.
You percentage of the winnings is calculated on your percentage of the over-all contributions.
For example, if you contribute $20 and the overall contributions total $500, you would get 4% of the winnings. That would be $40K for a $1M win. Not too shabby for a $20 stake!
